Like a giant Santa with six heads, Grub Street’s city editors have picked a winner in our contest that awards one reader dinner for four and a bottle of wine at Osteria La Buca. And you don’t even have to sit on any of our laps! With a short deadline, we only received a small supply of responses, from a “Twelve Days of Hanukkah” poem detailing one guy’s love for Nutella to passionate pleas for beef jerky and booze in reader’s stockings. But, as is the norm around here, there can only be one winner and we picked someone who was forth-right about their kitchen skills, even if they dream of sophisticated machinery to come down the chimney this holiday season. Who won? See below to find out.
The prize goes to reader Tovan Tran, who tells Grub Street L.A:
“When I wake up Christmas morning, I dream that I get the SousVide Supreme. Why a SousVide Supreme? Because it’s ridiculous to think that my husband would have dropped the $1.5 grand for the Polyscience immersion circulator set. I’m giddy with excitement as I inspect my new toys. I start thinking of all the wonderful things that I can make. I even fancy myself a mad scientist like Ferran Adria. I smell something burning, and awaken from my daydream…my graham cracker crust has burned. Like I need a Sous Vide Supreme, when I can’t handle a graham cracker crust.”
Congratulations Tovan, you’re going to Osteria La Buca with three of your pals! Thank you to all of our readers who entered. If you’re sad you didn’t win, remember the restaurant is offering eleven more days of prizes through its Facebook, without all of our meddling around. And here’s hoping everyone gets what they want this holiday season!
