Remember that LCB self-serve wine kiosk thing that Grub Street’s had so much fun ridiculing reporting on for the better part of the year? Well, they pulled the plug on them last night, citing “mechanical and technological issues,” according to a prepared statement. Seems some of the 30 “high tech” machines deployed in supermarkets around the state, which cost the LCB about $100,000 a piece, are riddled with bugs and glitches that cause them to dispense the wrong bottles of wine, or in some cases, no wine at all. The LCB took the entire system offline last night and hopes to have all the problems worked out by early next year. Despite an inadequate performance and a self-imposed freeze on the machines, the LCB maintains that “customer satisfaction with the six-month old kiosk program remains high.” [LCB]
