Bun & Co.'s gates had been down since late last week, and when we dropped in Sunday to scope things out, we found owner Ratha Chaupoly in the darkened environs of B&C Bar next door. The somber-seeming Chaupoly confirmed that both the sandwich shop and its adjoining bar have closed, and cited financial reasons as the cause. "It's hard, especially in this area," he told us. The bright bit of news is that Chaupoly hopes to revive Bun & Co.'s predecessor, the popular Kampuchea, which closed in August. "I get e-mails all the time asking when we're opening back up," Chaupoly said. He's thinking about somewhere in Brooklyn, but doesn't have any specific neighborhood in mind: "I've got to deal with this space first."
