A Look at Hostaria Del Piccolo’s Space and Menu, Now Open in Santa Monica

Piccolo, Venice’s elegant beach-side Italian restaurant of high quality and high prices, has turned a little more accessible by opening Hostaria del Piccolo in central Downtown Santa Monica. The handsome new restaurant has a comfortable, casual feel with reclaimed barn-house wood, cardborad menus, an open kitchen, and forthcoming back patio, plus a huge menu that mostly focuses on seasonal ingredient pizza with naturally leavened dough. The thin-crust pies balance ingredients from the traditional to more novel items like ahi tuna, Italian wurstel, porchetta, and fries. There are also generous selections of sweet pizza and sauce-less bianchi pies, as well as pasta plates, antipasti, and salads that fall under $20 and a huge list opf beverage options including limoncello, grappe, tequila, mezcal, and great global beers. A short selection of meat and fish dishes is also available if carbs are a big concern, not to be unexpected in a neighborhood where Juliano’s Raw has thrived for years.
