What to Eat at the Florentine, Opening Tomorrow

We knew it’d be Italian, and that it’d be a touch more “rustic,” but we have to admit to being a little in the dark of Todd Stein’s latest venture, The Florentine. It’s a partnership with Rodelio Aglibot and the BLT Group in the newly renovated (and stunningly beautiful) JW Marriott. While Cibo Matto (Stein’s last gig) was a hip and stylish modern Italian spot in the flashy Wit Hotel, The Florentine is a classic and subdued, which makes it a perfect fit for the surroundings. We took around the space last night, and were able to get a look at that new menu.

As befitting a hotel restaurant, every meal is covered, from breakfast to dinner. But we were most interested in the dinner menu. It features a collection of classic antipasti, a pasta-filled primi selection, and some meaty secondi. It all looks fairly traditional, which might make it less exciting than Cibo Matto, but it could also be more comforting and welcoming. We can imagine this place being utterly packed after work with people getting a quick snack and a drink.

Still, we’re most excited that the duck egg carbonara made the trip across the Loop with Stein. Check out the full menu below, but make sure to take a look around the new space, and a few of the new dishes.
