That Was Fast: Locanda da Eva Shuttering After Four Months

We think this is a new record for 2010. Berkeley’s Locanda da Eva, opened by food scribe/ CHOWhound Robert Lauriston with the help of chef-partner Huw Thornton back in July, is closing already due to lack of business. Lauriston tells the Scoop that “what we are doing isn’t right for this location,” the same Telegraph Avenue location that most recently was home to Maritime East, and previously home to Mazzini Trattoria, Zax Tavern, and Casa de Eva. Lauriston’s decision to close comes just a week after the restaurant closed for a brief facelift, and just days after Michael Bauer revealed via his blog that he would not be reviewing the place. In retrospect, Lauriston concedes that being a restaurateur might have been more than he bargained for. “What surprised me the most was that there was so little I was qualified to do. If I was to do it again, I’d take a few accounting classes at a community college beforehand.” Their last day of business will be Sunday. [Scoop]
