The good folks at Shake Shack have gotten back to us about rumors that they’ve been negotiating a Coney Island deal, and wouldn’t you know it, it’s the same official statement we get every time we ask about the Shack (see it below, in case you haven’t memorized it by now). We have yet to hear back from Atomic Wings. Meanwhile, the Daily News reports that Brooklyn’s first Shake Shack may be well north of Coney — according to their source, it’ll be in the space that previously housed Tony’s Famous Pizza, at the corner of Fulton and Adams. But just like the Coney rumor, at least one Brooklynite isn’t happy: “This is really unfortunate. It’s the same old tired story of the small businessman getting pushed out.” Here, for the record, is the official word from the Shack, about both the Fulton and Coney reports.
Many thanks for reaching out. We feel extremely fortunate for the great interest in Shake Shack. As you may be aware, we have openly expressed our intention to bring Shake Shack to compelling sites in great neighborhoods. As such, rumors often circulate about potential openings. We have decided not to comment on any of these rumors until we have something concrete to share. At this time we are focusing our efforts on the operations of our existing Shacks, as well as three new Shacks slated to open in 2011: Washington, DC, Battery Park City and Westport, CT.
