Martins West in Redwood City Is ‘Homey but Adventurous’; Urban Curry Is Worth a Try

Following suit with almost every other review that Bauer doesn’t write, Martins West gets the standard two and a half stars from Mandy Erickson today. The Redwood City eatery is “inspired by” Martins restaurant in Edinburgh, Scotland, and serves some dishes like potted shrimp (not on the current menu), which Erickson says is “a winning marriage between British and California cuisines: a canning jar filled with avocado mousse, Marie Rose sauce (ketchup and mayonnaise) and bay shrimp scented with Meyer lemon.” Sounds weird! Also, she likes most of the pub food and the octopus salad but says the duck was disappointing. [Chron]

Also, Bargain Bites says Urban Curry, right in the heart of fratty North Beach at Broadway and Columbus, is worth a taste. [Chron]

And Bar Bites visits La Folie Lounge, next door to La Folie, and says it’s “all cozy romance.” They also can’t say enough about the truffle popcorn. [Chron]
