‘Local’ Pisco Wins Best In Show In Peru

Campo de Encanto pisco, the San Francisco brand from Cantina owner Duggan McDonnell and Peruvian partner Carlos Romero that launched in June, just won a major blind-tasting competition down in Peru. The Consurso Nacional del Pisco gave Best in Show to the pisco that McDonnell and Romero have spent the last year blending. “Our minds are kind of blown,” says McDonnell, whose fledgling label may need to consider upping their production soon. Encanto may be distilled in the birthplace of pisco, Peru, but the label declares it “the spirit of San Francisco.” Jon Bonné already raved about the stuff in the Chron, describing its “power, viscosity, a banana richness and a musky funk… [with] jasmine, coriander and citrus rind.” [Grub Street]
