Jose “Pepe” Rodriguez, who founded Boyle Height’s elegant and critically lauded La Serenata de Garibaldi with his wife in 1985, passed away yesterday at age 77. In addition to adding two more locations to the west side and earning the nickname “Maestro de Salsas,” Rodriguez was a great citizen, giving to charities, hosting fundraisers, and donating food to groups like The Wall Memorias Project.
