Charlie Palmer’s DG Burger Has Nothing to Do With Daniel Boulud’s DB Burger

By

When Daniel Boulud launched DBGB in Manhattan, the initials were said to stand for Daniel Boulud Good Burger. Now we hear Charlie Palmer of Aureole is opening DG Burger in Costa Mesa, California, and the “DG” stands for “Damn Good.” Okay, so Damn Good Burger (DGB) and Daniel Boulud Good Burger (DBGB) aren’t exactly the same thing, and the DG Burger might not be a rip-off of the DB Burger (never mind HB Burger), but then again db Wine Bar & Kitchen and db Bistro Moderne aren’t an exact match, either, and that didn’t prevent Daniel Boulud from threatening legal action against Queens chef Danny Brown. (Oh, and let’s not forget: DBGB met the ire of CBGB when its mock logo resembled that of the vanished Bowery institution.)

We’re going to assume Boulud won’t be sending a cease-and-desist letter to Charlie Palmer, but in a world of Good Burgers and Better Burger and goodburger, did we really need a Damn Good Burger? If you think yes, then know that DG Burger grand-opens next Tuesday. The menu is below.
