Chez Panisse Makes L.A. Appearance With Chili-Dusted Crudité?

Sure, the cliché is “figs on a plate,” and Chez Panisse is known for the rustic simplicity of their dishes. But the restaurant, recently snubbed by Michelin, made an appearance in L.A. over the weekend at a benefit for childhood cancer and the non-profit Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and the dish they were serving kind of makes us feel like they’ve thrown up their hands. It was some “Mexican crudité,” chopped vegetables dusted in chili powder. We’re familiar with this warm-weather dish, and we’re sure it was tasty, but as one friend of Grub Street put it, in the wake of the Michelin thing, “They’re just like ‘Fuck it. Chili powder.’” [Grub Street LA]
