Temporary Closings

Axe Will Remain Shut for Two Months During Construction, And Then?

Axe owner Joanna Moore hasn’t quite put the kabosh on her Abbot Kinney restaurant, which still sits shuttered and masked by heavy plywood following a fire in August. Squid Ink counters speculation at Eater that the business might be done forever, although a cryptic comment from Moore herself doesn’t exactly clarify her plans. What is certain is that Axe will remain closed for at least two more months while renovations continue on the building, and in the meantime, Moore is open to catering jobs, like the one she rocked last week for MOCA. But rather than elaborate on the fate of Axe, she is quoted mysteriously as saying, “I have had interest in the restaurant and I am open to offers!” Huh? Are these offers to sell the place or to transform the concept? Is anyone more confused about Axe’s future now than ever?
