Reporter Soledad O’Brien and fiesta-to-avoided Carlos O’Brien’s have some new Irish-Latin company as Jose O’Malley’s truck recently hit L.A. The truck has two menus, one a selection of U.S. comfort eats like hot dogs, burgers, chili, and pork sandwiches, along with shepard’s pie and salmon burgers. Then there’s a smaller sampling of Mexican quickies like tacos, quesadillas, and burritos with chicken, pork, and beef, that gives us as much confidence as say, Surfer Taco or any of the other recent attempts to cross Mexican food over into the new trend. More promising perhaps are homemade flan and the wacky-sounding brownie-on-a-stick and earthquake cheesecake with graham cracker crumbs. So where do you find it and what does Kim Kardashian’s mama have to do with it?

The truck, which launched at the start of the month, will appear at the premiere of Cabaret starring Kim Kardashian’s mom, Kris Jenner, at Woodland Hills Class Act Theater next Friday, October 22nd, with promises to serve its food with a dose of stand-up comedy, karaoke, and according to Facebook, “maybe a hula hoop contest.” The truck swears it’s the future of food trucks, which if they’re right, appears to be strange, if not a little desperate for a unique selling point.
