SmartPak, a Plymouth manufacturer of whole-food nutrition for dogs, says our four-legged friends are the next victims of carb-based obesity. The company’s general manager Brad Bishop dismisses bags and cans of standard dog food thusly: “Kibble is basically dough that is fried, and then sprayed with synthetic vitamins to make up for the nutrient loss.’’ He says his company is “taking a lot of carbohydrate calories out of the meal and replacing them with high-quality protein.’’ The name of this new line of chow: Proportions.
