What to Eat at the Big E

The Big E is underway in West Springfield and, while there’s no fried beer a la the Texas State Fair, there’s plenty of crazy eats on tap. The big attraction here, of course, is the Big E Cream Puff, a baseball-sized puff pastry and cream assemblage. If that doesn’t fill you up, there’s always the Craz-E-Burger, a bacon cheeseburger sandwiched between two glazed doughnut halves. Cartoonishly carnival food not your thing? There’s also Italian fare, tacos, pierogis, and even (yawn) salads available.

Even in a world of bacon doughnut cheeseburgers, however, the Big E’s drinking options are especially hilarious. There are no less than six bars at the fair, each offering a different boozy style, like the Sam Adams Brew Garden, Oktoberfest Munich Style, and the Big E Martini Bar. Because what better idea could there be than heading to the state fair, eating a giant cream puff and some pierogi, and then downing a few martinis before hitting the rides?
