Watch a Trailer for Aasif Mandvi’s Masala Film, Today’s Special

Back when he shared his New York Diet, The Daily Show’s Aasif Mandvi said he had co-written a film based on his play Sakina’s Restaurant, about a rising sous-chef who gets stuck with his family’s restaurant. Well, the trailer for Today’s Special is finally out, and in addition to a heaping helping of Indian-food porn, the movie (in theaters October 8) promises on-location scenes in Jackson Heights, Queens. Look carefully and you’ll see that the location used for “Tandoori Palace” is 7414 37th Avenue, formerly home to Ashoka and now the address of Nepalese spot Thakali Kitchen. This is so going to be better than Still Waiting … .
