Chicago’s Great Food Truck Race Contestants

Though Chicago may have a compromised food truck scene compared to Los Angeles and New York, we do still have some brave men and women out on the streets. We found out on Monday that four of them, (Happy Bodega, Chicago All Fired Up, Gaztro-Wagon, and Flirty Cupcakes on Wheels) were up for the next season of the Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race. Though we only get a few picks, they are wildly diverse. Make sure to vote here. We thought we’d take a look at who is up and what they are serving.

Chicago All Fired Up
The grandfather of the scene, and as far as we can tell, the only one that can cook on the truck. By sheer luck, it procured the proper license to cook on the truck, and has been dishing out fried and smoked turkeys ever since. It was out on the street before it was even cool to do so.

Gaztro-Wagon
People may not have been clamoring for naan-wiches before, but the Indian-inspired sandwich has proved to be a huge success. Also, owner Matt Maroni has been on the forefront of changing the food truck laws changed in the city. Plus, sometimes he lets other Chicago chefs join him in the wagon.

Flirty Cupcakes on Wheels….
It felt like the mobile cupcake invasion was going to drive all other trucks off the streets, but this is only one to make the final list. They’ve been dishing out cupcakes for a few months now, including the little mini ones.

Happy Bodega
With a strange fondness for New York corner stores, this truck serves coffee, tea, gelato, sorbet, and french baguette sandwiches. Plus they have a charming website where you can find posts on just about every topic except the actual menu.
