Shawn Gormley and Nicolas Moore, two of the city’s most endearing and enduring bartenders, quietly opened Philadelphia Bar & Restaurant, a 75-seat gastropub in the former Youngs Meats space in Old City last Friday. PBR features a menu of comfort-driven dishes, 12 taps devoted primarily to local and craft beer, and clever cocktails, according to the press release. Jordan “Red” Sauter, formerly chef de cuisine at the well-received Northern Liberties BYOB Modo Mio, is heading up the kitchen. Sauter’s menu features an interesting array of dishes. Highlights include crispy eggplant fries, with goat cheese emulsion, PBLT, pork belly confit, iceberg lettuce, tomato and pancetta mayonnaise and a scrapple cheesesteak, with provolone and a fried egg. PBR serves its all-day menu Mondays through Fridays from 3 pm to 2 am, and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 2 am. A weekend brunch menu will feature seasonally inspired dishes.
