Mr. Jonathan Gold is looking at a busy month. On the heels of judging Evan Kleiman’s pie contest and keeping Michael Voltaggio company, the critic will appear next week at Skirball Center to discuss cooking and the possible damage caused by adding too much “celebrity” to the culinary pot. Following an appearance at a VIP reception for Cedd Moses’$2 213 Craft Beer Bar Crawl this month, the scribe will again team with Moses and bring “Jonathan Gold’s Speakeasy Cocktail Party” back to Union Station. What’s different this year?

The return of this event, which benefits Zócalo Public Square, will find a smattering of Gold’s favorite restaurants (including Lazy Ox, Rivera, Grace, Providence) joining a lineup of Moses cocktail spots (like Las Perlas, Red Car Bar) on October 9th. Better yet, in a shift, last year’s $300 ticket price has come down drastically for this second annual event, with the highest priced tickets going for $185 and a few discounts available. Tickets are on-sale now, along with full details, on Zocalo Public Square’s website.
