It’s a tough break for kitchen and service staffs anytime a restaurant closes. Its exceptionally distressing when it comes as surprise and employees are left locked out, which appears to be the case at Artful Dodger, according to Foobooz. A note posted in the window of the longtime Headhouse establishment informs employees that “the corporation” has decided to close due to “economic necessity” and that the locks have been changed to “protect the assets.” The note also includes a phone number that Artful Dodger employees can call to make arrangements to pick up any belongings they might have left behind. It goes on to say that after an “assessment of the financial status is made the Corporation may be able to resume business.” There’s no word about the status of wages owed to employees, which unfortunately is typically the case when a restaurant gets shuttered and padlocked.
