Anthony Bourdain’s ‘Ultraviolent Food Nerd’ Graphic Novel Mashes Up a Lot of Movies

We have long privately maintained that Anthony Bourdain is the Neil Gaiman of the food world — shaggy hair, obsessive fans, charmingly yet incessantly self-promoting, ludicrously tall — and now that he’s getting into the graphic-novel business, the deal is sealed. Coming soon from DC Comics is the Bourdain-penned Get Gyro Get Jiro!, a story of “ultraviolent food nerds,” reports the Omaha World-Herald. “It’s a gourmet slaughterfest,” Bourdain explains. “Sort of like Fistful of Dollars meets Eat Drink Man Woman.” To Now Toronto, he gives a different (but similarly eating-and-fighting) set of references: “I describe it as Yojimbo meets Big Night and Babette’s Feast.” Whatever it is, we’re in.
