Tucked away in the back of Center City’s new-ish frozen yogurt shop Tutti Frutti - the first of several that will undoubtedly transrom the 13th and Walnut neighborhood into the FroYo district - owners Shane Sharief and Kevin Kaing have opened Small Oven Bakery, a “micro-bakery” that specializes in Japanese style shu (traditional French spelling choux), which are oversize cream puffs. The precious confections are filled to order and served as is, or as a more deluxe treat, topped with fluffy, creamy heaps of flavored whipped cream and fresh fruit. Currently Small Oven Bakery offers six varieties of shu, but the owners expect to expand their lineup with seasonal varieties staring in the fall.
