Stalking the Wild Paleta in Albany Park

We’re big on people making videos about the food around them— we’ve made a food video or two ourselves— so we were more than willing to forgive a little shakycam for the spirit of adventure and infectious humor displayed in this series devoted to one of the city’s most diverse and interesting neighborhoods, Albany Park. The series is called “Northside and Local,” and the more interesting by far of two episodes to date involves Mexican street vendors of paletas (Mexican popsicles) and elotes (corn). As the friend who alerted us to it put it, “there’s something endearing about the big Mexican guy who’s trying to show his buddy all this stuff that tastes good and his buddy is interested enough to film things but won’t really eat anything.” Hey, we’ve been there.
