Spotted Pig Team Lets Go of New Project; the Smile Wants to Open a Breastaurant

On the heels of defeating Il Buco’s pig roast, Community Board 2’s NIMBYs have chalked up another one: Eater reports that Ken Friedman and April Bloomfield ditched plans to open a small breakfast and lunch spot (with wine and snacks at night) at 322 West 11th Street after neighbors griped at last night’s Community Board 2 meeting. Everyone knows you have to pick your battles when it comes to the community board, and that’s why the owners of the Smile are trying to replace Mystique Gentleman’s Club at 75 Clarkson Street with a 300-seat “adult entertainment restaurant/cabaret.” Needless to say, they didn’t get the board’s support, but the board did give its blessing to Harold Dieterle’s new project. Click over to Eater to hear about new projects from Joey Campanaro, Clo Wine Bar, Xunta, and the owners of Elettaria, who are looking to reopen the restaurant without Akhtar Nawab.
