Mexican Buffet at Grocery: Ropa Vieja and Juicy Chicken

Grocery is an almost too cute take-out spot, stocked with artisanal sodas, tiny pieces of cheese, and pretty sandwiches. The owners are the team behind the neighboring Bindi and Lolita. And so they’ve brought some of the latter’s Mexican dishes to Grocery, where you can pay by the pound for pork carnitas and rice and beans. Mix and match with Grocery’s other salad bar, which brims with edamame, curried chicken salad, and and bright Israeli couscous. The ropa vieja is tender and tasty, the chicken satisfyingly smoky. The prepared food changes constantly, so regulars can avoid a taco lunch rut. [Midtown Lunch]
