Sebastien Chamaret, the pastry chef at Orsay who spent four years as chef de cuisine at the legendary La Goulue (and before that served at Jules and La Mirabelle), opened Le Comptoir in the former Cornichon space in Williamsburg today. Until the liquor license comes through and the market-driven French-American dinner menu launches in the fall, he’ll be offering only brunch, from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. every day of the week. If you’re taking a staycation next week, Le Comptoir’s 35-seat back garden (which you can see in our slideshow) is where you’ll want to fritter away your late mornings and afternoons. Or grab one of the eighteen seats at the chef’s counter to watch your bacon-cheeseburger sausages (from the Meat Hook, where else?) laid over a bed of warm lentils. The rest of the menu is below.
