Edna’s Restaurant Closes

We’ll start off the week with the sad news that Edna’s Restaurant, a 44 year-old soul food spot on in East Garfield Park with a strong tie to the Civil Rights Movement, closed on Saturday. This comes less than two months after its matriarch, Edna Stewart, passed away. Last week, the Sun Times covered the issue of how long the restaurant would stay open, and while the news was sour, it seemed like it still had a few weeks left. But the Chicago Reader confirmed late on Friday that Saturday would be its last day. [Sun-Times, Chicago Reader]
