If you haven’t managed to get out to Queens to try the produce that Brooklyn Grange started selling last month at its Long Island City location and its pop-up stand in Vesta, take note: New York City’s largest rooftop farm is debuting at the Brooklyn Flea this Saturday. Flea impresario Eric Demby tell us they’ll be selling organic produce harvested that morning, plus fresh heirloom-tomato salads tossed with baby greens, herbs, and cucumbers. Also joining the Flea for a trial run on Sunday is Steve’s Craft Ice Cream, out of Somerville, Massachusetts (see menu below).
Elsewhere in urban farming, Brooklyn Based profiles Bob Hyland, a greenscaping expert who has indoctrinated the likes of Frieda Lim (her Gowanus-based Slippery Slope Farms was recently featured in the Brooklyn Paper) in the ways of SIPs, or Sub-Irrigated Planters.
