Beckett’s In Berkeley Changing Hands

Popular Irish pub Beckett’s (2271 Shattuck) in downtown Berkeley, which often features live music, appears to be changing hands after opening nine years ago under the ownership of John and Mary Connolly. Grub Street discovers that a new owner with a very French name (Les Copains D’Abord, which means “friends first” and is the name of a Georges Brassens song) is stepping in, and just from the sound of that the place won’t be staying Irish for long. The restaurant is in the historic Tupper & Reed Building, built in 1925, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. File under: Developing.
