This must be a record: Just five months after opening, the Lower East Side’s perpetually packed Meatball Shop has already scored a cookbook deal. According to Publishers Marketplace, Ballantine will publish the collection of meatball, sandwich, and dessert recipes in 2011. Meanwhile, Publishers Weekly profiles Ecco Press publisher Dan Halpern, the patron saint of food books, and reveals that in 2012 he’ll publish A Girl and Her Pig by April Bloomfield of the Breslin and Spotted Pig. Halpern tells us the project will be a “cookbook with memoir running throughout,” written with JJ Goode.
