Health Department Awards First Letter Grade to Some Deli in Queens

A Long Island City deli may steal some thunder from the New Jersey sub shop where Obama is speaking today. The Health Department is patting itself on the back for awarding its first A grade to the “well-kept” Spark’s Deli at 28–31 Borden Avenue. See, Marc Murphy? Even bodegas can get an A! The press release also touts a new search engine that allows you to dig up restaurant-inspection scores with greater ease — and according to the revamped site, the same deli that got an A this time around got a 38 (the equivalent of a C) back in 2007. Also interesting: Earlier this month, wildly popular rum bar Cienfuegos scored a whopping 61 points owing to evidence of rats and flies, personal-cleanliness issues, and so on, and its sister bar Desnuda racked up 30 points. Have fun with the new site below.
