Few Changes Are In the Works at Shane Candies

With Franklin Fountain’s owners at the helm, the only changes in the works for Old City’s Shane Candies are returning the near-century old sweets spot back to it’s original turn of the 20th century splendor, the Restaurant Club reports. When bow-tie-clad brothers Eric and Ryan Berley purchased the historic shop back in May a small shock surged through Philly’s collective sweet tooth. But fears of big changes are unfounded. The antiquarians, who’ve already successfully stepped into the Wayback Machine to create the old-timey Franklin Fountain, are reportedly eying small aesthetic changes at Shane Candies, mostly in the form of fixing and restoring the space’s original details and accents. When they reopen in the fall, the Berley brothers expect to continue making Shane’s line of buttercreams and other bygone confections, using the same vintage equipment, and introduce new, seasonally inspired sweets too. They will also bring the Franklin Fountain’s ice cream-making efforts to one of the building’s back rooms. [Restaurant Club]
