Cups & Chairs Tea Cafe opened this week at the corner of Passyunk Ave. and Monroe St., just across from Sweat Gym. The bright and spacious 30-seater, owned by Taiwan native Kylie Tsai, features 59 different types of tea carefully selected from China, Japan, Africa and beyond. All are sold loose or steeped to order. In addition to tea, Tsai serves smoothies, bubble teas, tea lattes and just one type of coffee from Ann Arbor, Michigan’s Zingerman. The cafe’s small menu offers bagels, fresh baked goods, pastries and sandwiches, but will soon be expanded. “I love to cook, bake and experiment in the kitchen,” Tsai told Grub Street. “This is a very health-conscious neighborhood, so I’m trying to keep that in mind with the menu.”

Tsai, who moved to the U.S. 17 years ago, spent the last ten years working in IT. She spent the last two years living in Bucks County, before moving to Philly to open Cups & Chairs. Hours of business are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
