While NIMBYs have hope in Daniel Squadrons new bill, bar owners can chalk one up in their column: Despite the fact that the residents of 25 Central Park West (the building that houses A-Rod, Sting, Denzel Washington, and others) hired big-deal lobbyists to block Greg Hunt from opening what he says will be a chill wine bar (and what they fear will be a raging nightclub) in a former Gristedes in the buildings ground floor, the community board voted 22 to 11 to support the enterprise so long as it closes early-ish and Hunt signs a notarized letter agreeing to never put a velvet rope outside (its uncertain what the letter says about disco balls). Of course, its not over yet the Westside Independent says lawyers may argue in court that the wine bar (which will include a jazz component) violates zoning laws.
