Opening tonight in the former Ideal Deli space at 8th and Folsom is Chris Beerman’s new restaurant Citizen’s Band. The name, and the menu’s theme, are a tribute to America and the open road — CB radios are part of the décor, and that’s what CB stands for kids, Citizen’s Band (also it’s Chris’s and pastry chef partner Cheryl Burr’s initials). The menu is home-y, honest, and arguably a step up from the dumbed-down comfort food we’re all used to seeing. The vibe, meanwhile, is hip and 70s, with a whole wall covered in pinned-up vintage photographs, postcards, and Life Magazine ads that evoke a specific era in American travel and design before we all turned worldly, jaded, and locavore.

They’re serving beer and wine, and they start with dinner only tonight, with lunch and brunch coming possibly by next month. See our full slideshow of the space, as well as some of the food highlights, by clicking below.

Citizen’s Band - 1198 Folsom Street, at 8th Street next to Pinkie’s Bakery - 415.556.4901 - Open 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for dinner, Tuesday to Sunday
