Beppe, the Italian restaurant at 45 East 22nd Street, is closing at the end of this month, a manager confirmed. The owners plan to announce the closure via an e-mail to their customers this evening. Stratis Morfogen, the owner of Philippe, has taken the lease and plans to transform the space into another Italian restaurant, this one called Ciano after the Tuscan village. A source close to the deal tells Grub Street that Morfogen has already applied for a liquor license and plans to open the space in mid-September. Morfogen would not comment.
