François Payard broke ground recently at 116 West Houston, his first downtown foray. The eponymous bakery-café — a partnership with A Voce owner Marlon Abela — is on schedule for a late summer opening. As you can see from these renderings, the former My Befana space is getting a complete overhaul. Payard plans large, windowed kitchens to entertain his takeout visitors, as well as the folks occupying the twenty-seat casual-dining room. The famous macarons will, of course, be available — though Houston Street lunch eaters will no doubt be pleased to note that the menu at François Payard Bakery also extends to the savory, including sandwiches made on fresh-baked bread.
