Julie Reiner Launches Clover Club Lunch While Prepping Lani Kai

While Zagat reports that the Waverly Inn will start serving brunch in the fall (no doubt putting those biscuits to even better use), Julie Reiner sends word that Clover Club started serving lunch yesterday. It runs from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Chef Craig Rivard’s menu is below. Speaking of Reiner, the above photo shows she’s finally taken down Tailor’s sign and has started work on her Hawaiian cocktail joint — now named Lani Kai (after a beach in Oahu where she grew up).

Reiner tells us she has installed a second bar upstairs (like the basement, it will now be more of a lounge than a dining room), but she plans to offer shared plates of Pacific Rim cuisine and is currently looking for a chef. To make sure the space’s design is “light and airy and feminine,” Reiner’s artist brother has come in from Oahu to contribute some of his wood and shell work. As for the drinks, she’s planning to revive the Hawaiian Iced Tea she first debuted at Flatiron Lounge (“three could inspire you to stick the flower garnish in your hair and dance the hula,” Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld once wrote), as well as creating cocktails that will employ lychee, lemongrass, and other ingredients from her youth. Expect an opening in late August or early September.
