Westwood Gets An Ice Cream Truck

The father-daughter team behind Sam’s Ice Cream in Saugus will soon launch Westwood’s first ice cream truck in 25 years, reports the Globe. Bussam and Sirrene Alkhatatbih plan to launch the truck on Thursday, but they’ll have to comply tough regulations, put into place after a young boy was killed by an ice cream truck in the early 1980s: no driving on the town’s busiest or narrowest streets, no playing music, no parking within 500 feet of a playground, park, or school, and two people in the truck at all times. And if you’re thinking they might be able to drive over to neighboring Dedham to escape Westwood’s rules, think again: Dedham doesn’t allow any ice cream trucks period.
