If L.A. food has a guardian angel, there’s no question it must be Angeli Caffe-owner and Good Food host Evan Kleiman. Midtown Lunch reveals that she’s currently leaping to the defense of Nina Garcia, the former Breed Street quesadilla vendor who won–by a clear mile we hear– first place at the Vendy Awards. Following her victory, Garcia has been hassled by LAPD, who insist the sidewalk sizzler either gets in a truck that will cost her thousands or go bye-bye. Superwoman Kleiman is stepping in with Erin Glenn of Asociación de Loncheros to throw a benefit brunch this Sunday at Angeli that will not only further Garcia’s move to a truck, but hopefully create a micro-finance fund to resolve vendor issues that hinge on a certain amount of money. Want to help?

The benefit brunch is being held at Angeli Caffe, 7274 Melrose Ave. in Hollywood this Sunday, June 20th. from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Donations for Nina Garcia can also be sent to Nina’s Food c/o Carl Berquist, Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, 2533 West 3rd. Street Suite 101, Los Angeles CA. 90057. More details are available on Good Food’s blog.
