The Name Remains The Same

After watching BP’s pipes hemorrhage oil into The Gulf for more than two months and reading that the region’s oyster suppliers are going under, we naturally had to wonder about Santa Monica’s wonderful new seafood restaurant with the suddenly awkward name BP Oysterette. Have they experienced any blow-back, comments from passersby, or had to consider a name change? “Not yet,” owner Jennifer Morton clarifies to Grub Street, giving us at least one less matter to be depressed about. The initials, lest anyone mad at AMCO and British Petroleum considers a misguided boycott, stands for Blue Plate in a nod to Morton’s diner on Montana and yes, they still have fresh, clean oysters.
