Sam Mink, owner of Center City’s Oyster House, bought 3,000 Great Bay oysters to celebrate his first year in business. He’s extending the bar and restaurant’s happy hour special, offering them for a dollar a piece all day today. “Typically we go through 700 to 900 during a regular Friday happy hour,” he told Grub Street. “I think we’ll have enough to get through today.”

“I can’t believe it’s been a year already,” Mink said of his one-year milestone. “It’s been a wild ride, that’s for sure.” He added that business at the Philadelphia institution, which he and his family took control over last year (they’ve owned the building since 1976) has exceeded his expectations. “When we opened last year, people were lined up at the door,” he said. “They were so excited to have their oyster bar back and have the Mink family back.” The dollar oyster special goes on until 11 p.m.
