This week Erin O’Shea, chef and co-owner of South Street’s Percy Street Barbecue, receives praise from Andrew Knowlton in the pages of Bon Appetit. For the magazine’s July issue, Knowlton chats with O’Shea about tips and techniques for better barbecue. In the piece he refers to her as “one of Philadelphia’s best chefs,” and applauds her for being one of the “few female pitmasters in the country.” Prior to Percy Street, O’Shea, who developed a passion for barbecue and southern cuisine while working at Richmond, Virginia’s The Frog and the Redneck, took over West Philly’s Marigold Kitchen when its chef, Michael Solomonov exited to open Zahav. Since partnering with Solomonov and Steven Cook at Percy Street, O’Shea has proven that barbecue is no longer a male-dominated game. [Bon Appetit]
