Jen Snow of Russ & Daughters tells us that to celebrate the arrival of New Catch Holland Herring at Russ on June 8, the store has invited regulars Wylie Dufresne and the man who may well be his counterpart in the world of avant-garde jazz, John Zorn, to participate in a pairing at Astor Center on June 15 at 6 p.m. Pickled, smoked, marinated, and salted herring (including a dish Dufresne prepared for the event) will be matched with mixed drinks, and Zorn will presumably do his best musical interpretation of two exquisitely buttery fillets (attached at the tail) sliding down one’s throat. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased at Russ & Daughters or online.
