The Chinese Like Their Wine Extra-Expensive

Wine exporter David Duckhorn, who recently set up shop in Shanghai, has found that his nouveau riche Chinese clientele are mostly interested in very high-end French labels, and haven’t yet come to appreciate the charms of California wines. As the San Jose Mercury News reports, when told that Duckhorn’s priciest bottle was a $366 Quintessa, customers reply, “That’s not expensive enough.” [Mercury News, Earlier]
