Rick Bayless didn’t tweet from the kitchen, White House chef Cristeta Comerford didn’t quit in disgust, and not a rodent was in sight. In general, a successful state dinner. Though mired in a series of mini-controversies, Bayless told Esquire that everything went to plan, “I have to say, in this dinner, nothing went wrong.” The menu featured a jicama salad, the rumored green ceviche and Oaxacan black mole, and a Chocolate-Cajeta tart. The full menu is below, along with a recipe for the mole, and, perhaps, a few too many nice words for Michelle Obama.
Asked by Esquire who looked the best at the event, Bayless unleashed a flurry of praise on Michelle Obama, calling her beautiful no less than five times in five sentences. May have been a little overboard, but after seeing the pictures we kind of have to agree with him.

Things are basically back to normal, except for Bayless’s online presence. After being accused of tweeting from the White House kitchen by Lynn Sweet of the Sun Times, Bayless has been offline for over 24 hours. I’m not sure this has ever happened before. Come back Rick!
