Bowery Boogie notes that when the East Village’s Snack Dragon opens another taco shack at 164 Orchard in June, it’ll join San Loco, the Hat, and El Nuevo Amanecer (not to mention Los Feliz) — but it misses another Mexican newcomer on Orchard Street. UrbanDaddy gives us a glimpse inside Casa Mezcal, the three-story drinking and thinking center that went in front of the community board, oh, about a year and a half ago.
In addition to housing three bars, it’ll host live acts and movie screenings when it finally opens this week: “There will be handmade tortillas and tacos. But also available: a local delicacy of fried grasshoppers with melted cheese.” Earlier this month, the Post wrote that owner Ignacio “Nacho” Carballido (who also owns Nolita’s tiny Café el Portal) is being called “Mexico’s answer to Keith McNally.”
