We can’t help but already be a little endeared to a joint named “Papa’s Place” with the extra-adorable tag-line “Mom’s Cooking.” Awww… Feast lets us know that this one is coming to Hillhurst in Los Feliz sometime around August and that Papa in this case is the dearly departed padukes of one Cengiz Karachua, onetime owner of Upland’s Unique Deli turned graphic designer and embroidery expert, who is dedicating the place to his father’s memory. If you’re not teary-eyed yet, Karachua’s dad owned the space, formerly Golden Needle Tailoring, for 23 years and this opening is a fulfillment of a wish he made to his son. The food will be both German and Turkish, and burgers will be on the menu too, with a take-out focus and limited seating. A website is currently under construction but promises to keep the city updated.
