Reopenings

La Esquina Reopens Tonight

A rep for La Esquina tells us, “As of just moments ago and after a walk-through, the Department of Buildings lifted the vacate order on La Esquina and gave the restaurant permission to reopen. La Esquina will reopen this evening for dinner.” Not a good day for Georgette Fleischer, who is probably the only Barnard English professor ever to appear in “Page Six” (a former student griped about her to the Post today) and who now has to put 311 back on her speed dial.

Update: Asked whether the reopening is permanent, owners Derek Sanders and James Gersten told us in a statement, “The Department of Buildings (DOB) has conducted its site survey of La Esquina and has agreed that the restaurant has been and continues to be in compliance with New York City building codes. This is a final approval and the restaurant has resumed business, effective immediately.”
